I will be participating in the Carrizo Plain Bicycle Adventure Weekend on May 4-5, where I will ride to raise awareness for Sequoia Riverlands Trust's conservation efforts in the Carrizo Plain, along the watersheds of the Kings, Kaweah, Tule, and Kern Rivers, and in the Tulare Lake Basin.
The Carrizo Plain, is a 250,000-acre remnant of California’s Great Central Valley that 300 years ago was a vast grassland where antelope and elk grazed and wildflowers swept the spring landscape. Spectacular panoramic landscapes, a diversity of wildlife comparable to Africa’s Serengeti, and the highest concentration of threatened and endangered wildlife in California—these are the irreplaceable assets of the Carrizo Plain. Our weekend campout will take advantage of the dark sky afforded by this remote location.
Sequoia Riverlands Trust is a regional nonprofit land trust dedicated to preserving the natural and agricultural legacy of the southern Sierra Nevada and San Joaquin Valley. The wealth, productivity, and beauty of this land inspire SRT’s work to conserve it for future generations.
While my bike club, Southern Sierra Cyclists is helping to organize this event, all proceeds to to the Sequoia Riverlands Trust conservation efforts. Please consider joining us for the weekend, or donating on my behalf to Sequoia Riverlands Trust. You can sign up to ride at sequoiariverlands.org/events, and/or you can make a donation on this page.
