Thanks for checking out my Flotilla fundraising story! Until this past May, I have lived on Holly Pond and Long Island Sound for over 30 years, and am proud to, once again, paddle in the Flotilla on Team Holly Pond Paddlers to help SoundWaters protect the Sound by educating thousands of students every year--the Long Island Stewards of tomorrow!
Over the last two summers, with your help, and in memory of my father (RBG), who loved and understood the impact of sailing on young children, I raised over $7,000 and established and maintained a Young Mariners Scholarship Fund. SoundWaters used this money to purchase a new Opti sailboat for their Middle School Young Mariners program and to also fund several scholarships to allow more children to join the program and learn to sail!
On June 26, 2024, I had the honor of helping SoundWaters launch the new "RBG Cannon" with two Young Mariners aboard and many other students cheering them on. It was a big step for those children and an emotional moment for me, especially since I saw how engaged and excited they were to be in the program and also to learn about how our donations helped. I have since seen the program in action on several levels, and am reminded of the fact that it's because of donors like you, it continues to be super successful!
So. . . let's do it all again and keep the momentum going! I'm excited to be paddling on July 12th for the first time in a unique "pedal" kayak (like a bicycle on the water) and hope to not only explore the Sound in a different personal way, but to, more importantly, fund even more scholarships to allow new kids to explore this year. Access to the natural world can be life changing for a child. I hope you can make a donation to support my efforts in doing this.
Now more than ever, we need to act to protect our environment.
Thanks so much for your help!
