Thanks for coming this far. Team Kim is getting ready to paddle on the rough (OK, maybe not that rough) waters of Long Island Sound to help protect the Sound. If you love the Sound the way we do, then you know we can all do our part to protect it, but by paddling in the Flotilla we're helping SoundWaters do a whole lot more: They teach over 32,000 students from all backgrounds about the Sound every year and it takes education on that scale to create a real impact.  Your donation will help them teach even more. The students they teach today will be the stewards of the Sound tomorrow.

Two summers ago, Thomas participated in the 2 week Summer Research Intensive at Soundwaters which involved hands on work in the lab and out in the marshes, beaches and the Sound.  He tested the water for oxygen and chemicals and conducted field surveys of the marine population in Stamford harbor.  He collected samples of oysters and crabs and made multiple observations on each animal to gauge the health of the population and look for signs of a virus and an invasive parasite.  With a partner, he also designed and carried out a research project which culminated in a presentation to staff, classmates and family members on the last day.  His experience at Soundwaters gave him a much greater appreciation for the  ecology of the Long Island Sound and the need to strengthen and protect it.  And he had fun doing it!
