Phil's Epic Ride Across America

Although I completed this ride in 2013, the journey to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project never ends.  This fundraising page is still active and can accept donations.  Please consider a small donation.

Thanks for your continued support

“The most gratifying part of your goal isn't always necessarily the finish line, but rather the journey that gets you there. The training, the preparation, and the commitment you make to yourself to go beyond in order to achieve your goal.”

Imagine traveling through such beautiful areas as the Southern California coast ... the red rock town of Sedona, Arizona... roll up and over the Continental Divide... cross the Oklahoma panhandle... and the rural countryside of New England.   Now imagine doing this on a bicycle!

I am Philip Schoenig, a 51 year old retired Army Lieutenant Colonel of North Grafton, MA., and this image is  about  to  become  a reality as I will be cycling coast to coast to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP)

I will be cycling through some of the most beautiful and scenic areas in America averaging 110+ miles per day and cycle through 15 states. From the natural beauty of the southern Sierras and Rockies to spectacular river crossings like the Arkansas, Missouri and Mississippi, each day is a unique adventure in itself. Starting from California on 20 April, my 33 day journey will cover over 3,450+ miles and finish in Massachusetts on 23 May.    The "Fast America Ride" Tour Itinerary can be found at America By Bicycle web site.

Cycling across America has been a goal of mine for many years and with it a wonderful opportunity to help raise money and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project which serves veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound, co-incident to their military service on or after September 11, 2001 and their families.

I am funding the ride myself so that 100% of donations will go to the Wounded Warrior Project. I chose to ride for the Wounded Warrior Project because I was fortunate enough to have a healthy and rewarding military career.  Some of my brothers and sisters in arms were not as fortunate and together we can help make a difference for them and their families on their road to recovery.

When you support Wounded Warrior Project, you’re supporting an organization whose broad appeal reaches across demographic, geographic, and political boundaries. WWP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. It’s not about the war; it’s about the warrior.  With advancements in battlefield medicine and body armor, an unprecedented percentage of service members are surviving severe wounds or injuries. Your tax deductible donation enables WWP to help the thousands of wounded warriors returning home from the current conflicts and to provide assistance to their families.

In addition to online donations that are tracked on this page, I received a generous $5000 donation from the LDB Foundation and an anonymous donation for $250 sent directly to the Wounded Warrior Project. Bringing the total to over $20,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project.
