Five-and-a-half-year-old Ephraim is a sweet and funny little guy! His favorite activities are reading and doing puzzles, although he also loves listening to music and going for walks. Ephraim has always had an impressive ability to learn new things, like learning to read when he was four or learning where different countries and continents are located on a map. His parents like to think this is because he was born in Thailand and is already a citizen of the world.
At birth, Ephraim was diagnosed with Koolen-de Vries Syndrome which is the result of a missing gene. It is a multi-system disorder affecting the entire body. Ephraim’s body has to work harder to do everything a typical kid can do and the acquisition of skills is much slower. He is currently being treated for apraxia of speech, poor fine and gross motor skills, low muscle tone, seizures, minor heart defect and vision degeneration.
PROMPT is a unique motor-speech-planning therapy that is not covered by insurance but is shown to be extremely important in teaching a young child how to correctly form the sounds of speech that they are not able to do on their own.
