The total hike :
Length: 3.6 miles, about 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Difficult
Elevation Gain: 1243
Mount Tammany is one of the most popular hikes in New Jersey, and for good reason! The trail offers sweeping views of the Delaware Water Gap, without too much of a challenge. The trailhead is also easily accessed, right off of Interstate 80. Although there are several large parking areas, they do fill up quickly on warm weekends. It’s best to arrive early to secure a spot. Wherever you end up parking, it will be a short walk to the trailhead at the Dunfield Creek Natural Area Trailhead. There is a section along the Red Dot Trail that requires scrambling up a steep rocky face. There are views the whole way up the Red Dot Trail. After making it to the summit, continue westward on the Blue Dot Trail. This trail has a more gradual decline, eventually passing a swimming hole with some small waterfalls.
