140.6 Ironman Madison for Wounded Warrior Project

Hi, thank you for visiting my page and helping raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project!

Why this particular cause? Because it hits very close to home and to my heart.  Here is my story.
I had the privilege of running the Boston Marathon on Patriots Day this year-Monday April 15th. It was a gorgeous, sunny day filled with excitement and hope.  I left the finish line with my husband 10 minutes before the first of two bombs went off.  My world, like so many others, changed forever at that moment.  I have never experienced terror like that in my life up to that moment.  Within what seemed like minutes, military men and women surrounded my hotel and the streets of Boston.  These men and women made the runners, spectators, and natives safe.  They protected us.  They stood guard and allowed us to crawl into our beds and cry. They stood at attention ready to run towards danger rather than run away.

The day before this, my husband and several of our friends attended the Boston Red Sox game.  There were several wounded military men and women who were honored.  The crowd swelled with cheers and applause.  These men and women looks so strong and young and it was both painful and brave to see all that they gave to protect our country.  All were amputees, just like many of the innocent bystanders and supporters of the marathon found themselves after the Boston Marathon bombings.  I realized just how much our military men and women need so much help and support. I wanted to help in some small way.

What can I do? The one thing I know how to do. Run! Well...and bike and swim. This September 8th, I will be competing in the Ironman Wisconsin in Madison.  I will swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and run a full marathon of 26.2 all before the midnight deadline that night. It will be my second time but this race I will be racing not for myself but for the Wounded Warrior Project. All 140.6 miles.

Thank you to all who find it in their heart to donate.  Please know 100% of your money will go directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.  THANK YOU!
