Join us for the

Carrizo Plain Bicycle Adventure Weekend!

This charitable cycling event on May 4 & 5, explores the Carrizo Plain, a 250,000-acre remnant of California’s Great Central Valley that 300 years ago was a vast grassland where antelope and elk grazed and wildflowers swept the spring landscape. Spectacular panoramic landscapes, a diversity of wildlife comparable to Africa’s Serengeti, and the highest concentration of threatened and endangered wildlife in California—these are the irreplaceable assets of the Carrizo Plain. Proceeds from the Adventure Weekend help fund Sequoia Riverlands Trust's conservation efforts.

Ride a variety of routes along private, unpaved roads of SRT managed lands. These traffic-free back roads are perfect for gravel or mountain bike rides, but there is also an option to ride the paved, low-traffic roads along the shores of Soda Lake to the Carrizo Plain National Monument. Either way, you are likely to be surrounded by wildflower covered hills and grasslands. Southern Sierra Cyclists has curated routes with mileages and terrain to suit all types of riders.

Sequoia Riverlands Trust will host campers at the historic Diefenderfer Ranch, now owned by SRT as a habitat conservation site. It has an excellent area for camping and socializing with fellow cyclists. The site accommodates tent camping and a limited number of recreational vehicles (reservations required, no hook-ups). Cyclists must bring their own tent, sleeping bag, and pad (you can rent tents from REI). There will be a catered dinner and a guest speaker on the history of the area. If an owl should awaken you during the very dark night, consider it a call to stargaze and count shooting stars!

In the morning, wake up to coffee, tea, a simple breakfast burrito, and fruit to nourish you for the second day of cycling. Campers are invited to a do-it-yourself lunch station with all the fixings provided.
